In an e-mail sent to members of the Roadrunner Athletic Fund, UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey addressed the season ticket seat selection, the new TV show “The Birth of a Program”, and how many season tickets had been sold.
A record-tying 2010-2011 athletic school year is rapidly coming to a close. The academic year is complete, but a few of our teams are still competing. Baseball, as well as Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, are still competing.
Five UTSA teams won Southland Conference championships this year-tying the school record. Volleyball, Indoor Track and Field, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Golf, Women’s Soccer won SLC championships. As soon as baseball completes its regular season, the SLC Commissioner’s Cup will be awarded to the top university program. UTSA already has won the Women’s All-Sports Trophy. With the baseball points yet to be determined, UTSA has a five-point lead over Stephen F. Austin in the combined Men’s and Women’s race for the Commissioner’s Cup.
The seat selection process for the inaugural UTSA football season is running smoothly. Thank you to those who have purchased tickets. Nearly 6,000 season tickets already have been sold three months before the first kick-off. Please spread the word about tickets to friends, family and neighbors. Seat selections now will be based on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are a limited number of suites still available. What a year it has been. The last nine months have been some of the most successful in UTSA Athletics history. But we are not content. We have considerable future challenges as we complete our stay in the Southland Conference in 2011-2012 and prepare to move to the Western Athletic Conference in 2012-2013.
A sign in our weight room reads, “The loftier the goals, the higher the price tag.” Our student-athletes read this every trip to the weight room. They understand that they must be willing to give more to be more successful. The same rings true for all areas of athletics. We have been able to grow and accomplish new highs in part because of your financial support. Thank you for all that you do in support of UTSA Athletics.
