Recruiting Roundup

While UTSA was enjoying their final bye week of the season, there was still plenty of recruiting news to keep us talking this week, including two new commitments to the Roadrunner football program.

UTSA picked up its third commitment last Sunday, as DB Trey Mohair (Denton Ryan HS) chose UTSA over offers from Air Force, Louisiana Tech, UNT, Arkansas State and Central Arkansas. He will be vying for the free safety job that will be vacated after this season with the departure of senior Mark Waters. For more on his commitment, check out the excellent writeup on Trey from the Denton Record-Chronicle.

Less than a week later, Dan McCarney of the San Antonio Express-News announced the commitment of DB Erick Kinney (MacArthur HS), who reportedly actually made his commitment months ago. UTSA was apparently the only school to offer Erick, who was named to the 1st team All-District last season after recording 93 total tackles. Interestingly, he becomes the first known 2012 commit from the city of San Antonio, as the fifteen other known recruits from San Antonio have yet to make their decisions.

On a less positive note, cornerback Justin Albritton (Anahuac HS) committed to Texas State last weekend, choosing the Bobcats over offers from UTSA, UNT, Utah, Purdue, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, and Northwestern State. This makes him the second recruit to choose Texas State over UTSA this year, after OL Ryan Melton did so in August. The folks over at BobcatReport interviewed Justin on their latest podcast if you want to hear more about why he chose the Bobcats.

Two other UTSA recruits in the news this week were RB Quinton White (A&M Consolidated HS) and OL Kyle Fuller (Wylie HS). White switched his commitment from Tulsa to Texas Tech, shortly after receiving the offer from the Red Raiders, who had been his top choice all along. Fuller, a 3-star offensive lineman, reportedly committed to Virginia last week after many reports earlier this year had him committed to Iowa.
