Recruiting Update (11/29/11)

For a UTSA staff still in search of their feature back after a disappointing performance from the running game all season, they may have found their answer in an ACC transfer coming home to play out his final collegiate season in the blue and orange. Current Georgia Tech running back and 2008 Reagan grad Marcus Wright is reportedly contemplating a move to UTSA for the 2012 season after his graduation in May.

After being used sparingly in his first three seasons at Tech, Wright was injured at the start of this season and chose to use his redshirt so that he could transfer with one year of eligibility remaining. The NCAA rules typically require a player to sit out in his first year after transferring from an FBS school to another FBS school, but because he is graduating in May, he could potentially be eligible to play for an FBS team in the 2012 football season. Wright racked up over 7,000 rushing yards in his three varsity seasons at Reagan and would be a welcome addition to a struggling UTSA backfield.

Also of note recently is UTSA’s pursuit of Air Force commit Glynn Cheeks, a defensive end from Manvel HS. After committing to Air Force over the summer, he has recently starting taking visits to various other schools and shown interest specifically in UTSA, who offered him on November 17, according to his twitter.

Also found via Twitter, UTSA apparently sent some recruiting materials to Glynn, which you can see in the picture to the right (click on it to see full size). I’ve been trying to think of something witty to say about it, but I think it pretty much speaks for itself.

Last, but not least, I received some information about more than 30 recruits who are being evaluated by the UTSA staff. To our knowledge, none of them currently have offers from UTSA, and some have already committed to other programs, but the full list can be seen below. Of note are the eight junior college recruits, including a trio from Fullerton College (Clay, Guerrero, and Saenz) who are all 6’4″ or taller. As always, you can view our full 2012 recruiting board for more information on these recruits and over 100 others.

Darrell started writing about UTSA football before it was even a thing, then he took a few years off, and now he's back.
