UTSA football roster changes

The UTSA football spring roster was released today, with all but 17 players from the 2011 team returning. Along with some scholarship transfers we already knew about, the roster includes three new walk-on transfers.

Sophomore safety Spencer Phillips joins the Roadrunners after two years with Central Arkansas, never seeing any action for the Bears. The 6-2, 185-pound safety was a three-time all-district selection while playing for Cedar Hill HS, where he recorded 284 career tackles, seven interceptions, seven forced fumbles and 20 pass breakups. He was rated as a 2-star recruit by ESPN.com coming out of high school in 2010.

Fullback Eddie Pitts comes to us from just down the road at Texas Lutheran, where he rushed for 18 yards in his freshman season (2009) before leaving the team. The 5-10, 220-pound junior returns to San Antonio after playing his high school ball at Madison HS.

The last transfer on the roster is defensive end Jarron Harris, who appeared in five games during his redshirt freshman season (2010) at Angelo State, recording four tackles and one sack. The 6-3, 210-pound end was a two-time all-district selection for Leander HS and was named the Top Defensive Lineman on the team as a senior.

Below is a list of the 15 players who will not be returning to to the team in 2012, not including the two graduating seniors Mark Waters and Mike Sanchez.
