It was a great week for UTSA athletics as they combined to win 4 of 5 games over the weekend across all sports, all-time records were broken in football, soccer kept their tournament hopes alive, and a UTSA alum played the best game of his NFL career.
FOOTBALL
The Roadrunner faithful showed up in force on Saturday for UTSA’s game against the 0-5 Rice Owls in Houston.
It was an ugly game, highlighted by the fact that the play clocks at Rice Stadium were inoperable throughout the entire game and the referees did nothing to stymie the Owls consistent abuse of the situation.
However, UTSA held on to win 14-13, with a supposedly blocked extra point attempt being the difference in the game. Dalton Sturm finished the game with 209 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-25 passing, and now sits at #19 in the country, and third in conference, in passing efficiency.
Jarveon Williams ran for 40 yards on the day, putting him at 1,786 career rushing yards and surpassing David Glasco II (1,752 yards), making Williams the program’s all-time leading rusher.
Brett Winnegan only returned one kickoff in the game, but the 21-yard effort was enough to surpass Kam Jones (989 yards) to become the team’s all-time leader in kickoff return yards with 999.
The Roadrunners (3-3, 2-1 C-USA) will look to extend their winning streak as they return home to face the UTEP Miners (1-5, 0,3) on Saturday in the annual Homecoming Game.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
The UTSA soccer team was in need of at least one win this weekend in order to keep the C-USA Tournament in reach.
After squandering a 2-1 halftime lead and going on to lose 3-2 against UTEP, the Roadrunners traveled to Birmingham and secured three points with a 2-1 victory over UAB.

UTSA (9 pts) will kick off this weekend’s action on Thursday night with their final road game of the season against league-leading Western Kentucky (18 pts), before returning home on Sunday for a very winnable match against FIU (5 pts) as they look to qualify for their first postseason appearance since the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament.
VOLLEYBALL
The Roadrunner volleyball team traveled to Murfreesboro on Friday looking to restart their winning streak against a struggling Middle Tennessee squad, and came away with a convincing four-set victory, UTSA’s first sub-five-setter since the conference opener three weeks ago.
The Roadrunners then returned home for a match against UTEP on Sunday. It was a back-and-forth match that went to five sets yet again, with UTSA finally clicking to win the fifth set 15-7 and take the match.
Fans will get a chance to see a likely preview of late-round tournament games this weekend, as conference #3 UTSA (5-1 C-USA) takes on #2 Rice (6-1) on Friday and #1 WKU (7-0) on Sunday. Western Kentucky has won 11-straight and is ranked #20 in the nation in RPI.
ROADRUNNERS IN THE PROS
Brian Price was cut by the Packers and later named to their practice squad, while David Morgan II has returned to practice following a Vikings bye week, which made Teddy Williams the only UTSA alum in action for the second straight week.

Williams did not disappoint, however, as he recorded the first interception of his career – the first by any Roadrunner in the NFL – and a career-high six tackles, as the Panthers fell to New Orleans, 41-38.
