It was a tough weekend for UTSA as volleyball split their matches against the league’s top two teams, soccer lost both of theirs and now need help to make the conference tournament, while football lost in the longest game in C-USA history.
FOOTBALL
The Roadrunners entered Saturday’s contest against UTEP with just their second multi-game winning streak in the last two and a half years, and a real shot at becoming bowl eligible for the first time in program history. But all that changed when UTSA squandered a 28-14 lead and lost to the Miners after five overtimes, 52-49.
The five-overtime performance was the longest game in UTSA and Conference USA history, and tied for the fifth-longest in all of FBS.
One of the bright spots for UTSA was Kerry Thomas Jr., who hauled in two touchdown passes and surpassed David Morgan II as UTSA’s all-time leader in receiving touchdowns.
UTSA (3-4, 2-2 C-USA) takes on North Texas (4-3, 2-1 C-USA) this Saturday at the Alamodome, after the Mean Green shocked Army last week with a 35-18 victory over the 19-point favorites.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
UTSA dropped both of their matches last weekend, falling 2-0 to WKU on Thursday and 2-1 in overtime against FIU on Sunday.
All four goals allowed by the Roadrunners came after the 80th minute, continuing a trend of late defensive struggles that have plagued the team all year.

Despite the losses, UTSA still has an outside shot at making the C-USA Tournament, as long as they can beat Louisiana Tech and get some help in four or five other league matches.
The Roadrunners (9 pts) take on Louisiana Tech (15 pts) at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Park West Athletic Complex. The team needs our support, so if you’re in town make your way out to Park West and support the ladies on their quest for their first C-USA Tournament appearance.

In their first match of the weekend against #2 Rice, the Roadrunners notched their second sweep in conference play and their first in the team’s last six games. Dajana Boskovic set the record for most kills in a three-game match with 27 against the Owls.
Sunday’s match against top-25 WKU proved to be a much larger challenge, however, as the Roadrunners only lasted four sets against the Hilltoppers and the league’s best team extended their winning streak to 13 games. It was the 22nd win for WKU this year, the second-most in all of Division I.
Despite the loss, UTSA moved up to 59th in the RPI rankings after the weekend’s performances, their highest ranking of the season.
The Roadrunners (6-2 C-USA) will travel out of state for two matches this weekend against UAB (3-6) and Louisiana Tech (1-8) as they look to punch their ticket to the conference tournament.
ROADRUNNERS IN THE PROS
It was a rather lackluster weekend for UTSA alumni in the NFL, with Teddy Williams and the Panthers on a bye week, while David Morgan II returned from injury but only earned five snaps all game in the Vikings first loss of the year.

Both players will be back in action this weekend, as Williams looks to hold onto his newfound playing time, while Morgan looks to earn his back.
